CASE STUDY

Smooth establishment of a licensing regime for electrical lineworkers, facilitated by Pega

An independent safety regulator responsible for electricity, gas, and pipeline supply in Australia issues Certificates of Electrical Safety (COES) to ensure gas and electricity industries are safe and meet community expectations.

Challenges

  • Lack of a licensing regime for electrical lineworkers
  • Lack of consolidated database of electrical lineworkers

Outcomes

  • Received 2500 applications in production within one month of Phase 1 go-live
  • Onboarded registered lineworkers on a platform providing them access to self-service functions and new application lodgment
  • Fulfilled the business objective of issuing license to all the existing lineworkers working on-field by EOY 2020
  • Set up a bulk-upload process for the wider electricity industry

Abstract

Areteans was engaged to meet the energy regulatory requirements set out by the Victorian government. We used Pega to design a solution that not only fulfilled a licensing regime but also helped promote safety at the workplace and in the community as a whole.

Because of our expedited delivery, the client’s licensing team was able to get a headstart and complete assessment of 25% of the applications ahead of schedule. In addition, we also cut down costs by using Pega Mash-up to enable the web forms for application lodgement.
